A Personal Journey:
Back in my ninth-grade days, I sported long locks that flowed down my back. One day, out of the blue, my mother decided it was time for a change and whisked me off to the local barbershop. “Make her hair short like a boy’s,” she instructed firmly. The barber hesitated and asked, “Are we talking about a bob cut?” My mother replied without missing a beat, “No, take it up above her ears.”
I couldn’t hold back my tears as I watched the barber prepare his tools while onlookers began to cast curious glances our way. “Is that all for today?” he asked politely after making the first cut. My mother stood up confidently and said with determination, “Nope! Now do mine just like hers!”
It turned out that Mom was gearing us up for an upcoming Halloween party where we would both don matching bowl cuts as part of our costumes. Despite the initial shock of our new hairstyles, we attended the event together and were met with numerous compliments on our outfits—so much so that we even snagged the ‘Best Costume’ award!
