Three months after Freddie Freeman was put on the family emergency list because his 3-year-old son got sick, he was named the World Series MVP.
After the Los Angeles Dodgers won against the New York Yankees, Freeman talked about his son, Maximus Freeman’s fight with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS).
What he shared about that experience has parents everywhere cheering for this dad of three, ESPN reported.
“I would gladly strike out with the bases loaded in the Bottom of the ninth inning in Game 7 of the World Series 300 million times in a row than see that again,” he said about watching his son be hospitalized due to this rare autoimmune disorder.
“But he’s on his way,” Freeman added, giving an update on Max’s journey. “It’s going to be a long road.”
On social media, people praised Freeman for how he managed everything.
“As a die-hard Yankee fan, Freddie Freeman gained a fan in me,” one comment said. “The way you love your family and how you played through it all. Absolutely incredible. This Yankee fan is now your fan. Prayers for Max.”
“Nobody deserved MVP more than Freeman; he’s been through so much and overcame many challenges this postseason,” another commenter wrote.
“He’s not just an awesome baseball player and World Series champ but also an amazing father,” another comment stated.
On July 27th, Freeman was first placed on the family emergency list to stay by his son’s side.
Freeman’s wife Chelsea shared updates with worried fans as they received him at hospital.
She announced that Max had been diagnosed with GBS via an Instagram post.
