A surprising video showing a tricycle driver with a serious head lice problem has been circulating on social media, raising worries among Filipino users.
The now-removed clip, shared by Facebook user Primo Onipa, aims to highlight the risks of ignoring lice infestations.
Onipa also urged other drivers to keep good cleanliness as they meet many passengers every day.
In the footage, you can see lice moving across the back of the driver’s neck and onto his shirt, showing an extreme case of infestation.
Dr. Jay Recasata from Faces and Curves explained that such situations can cause great discomfort. “Head lice are contagious. They live in our hair roots, multiply quickly, and feed on blood from our heads. This can create wounds on the scalp and might lead to a bacterial infection,” he stated according to Filipino Times.
Dr. Recasata mentioned that treating it is easy; you just need a special shampoo costing about P500 per bottle. But if left untreated, lice problems can worsen; Dr. Enrique Collantes from Derma Clinic warned that severe cases could result in anemia and malnutrition because of the lice feeding on blood.
As per the National Health Service, head lice spread through direct contact with someone infected or by sharing personal items like combs or hats. Lice can also survive on furniture or towels for a short time which helps spread them further.
To prevent getting lice, it’s best to wash clothes and bedding in hot water , vacuum floors ,and soak hair brushes in hot water for five to ten minutes . These steps help keep your space free from these pests .
Maintaining hygiene is very important especially for those who interact with many people daily like drivers and commuters .
