Finding bright spots during tough times takes time and inner strength. Michael J. Fox, the well-known actor famous for his hopeful view on life, has faced hard times since he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s.
Michael’s journey to acceptance wasn’t quick; it took him a while to deal with his diagnosis and change his focus towards finding good things in each day.
His path toward accepting his situation shows a strong spirit.
Recently, Fox participated in an interview where he shared that living with Parkinson’s has become more difficult. He mentioned that he doubts reaching 80 because of the challenges the disease brings him.
In a heartfelt talk with Jane Pauley, Fox described Parkinson’s as a scary opponent that feels closer and more real in his life every day.
“I won’t sugarcoat it,” he said, explaining how each day is like climbing a steep hill that gets harder over time. Thinking about the unending nature of the disease, he talked about how lonely it can be and wondered who to ask for help.
Fox recently had surgery on his spine for a non-cancerous tumor which, even though it was not dangerous, impacted his ability to walk. The operation made him feel weak and led to several fractures after falling down; this showed how much strain there is on his body.
During his chat with Pauley, Fox openly discussed these struggles giving insight into what it’s like living with Parkinson’s and its impact on everyday life.
