My partner and I always say that a marriage is based on love, trust, and respect. For seven years, I thought Ethan and I had all three.
Then, everything shifted one ordinary afternoon.
I had just come back from getting the kids, managing their endless energy along with backpacks and snack wrappers. After settling them upstairs to play, I looked forward to a few moments of quiet before starting dinner. That’s when I heard Ethan talking in the living room.
“Here’s the secret, folks,” Ethan said.
“You marry someone who does all the work—raising the kids, taking care of the house—and then you keep the pretty ones for fun. Sarah doesn’t have any idea.”
“She thinks I’m an angel,” he chuckled.
“Meanwhile, I’ve got the house, my car, and my freedom. Best part? She’s happy keeping it all together while I have a good time.”
My heart sank but instead of barging in to confront him, I quietly stepped back and went upstairs. I forced a smile while hiding my anger.
After Ethan came home that night, clueless as usual; I’d set up a “special surprise.”
“Hey babe,” he said with his typical smug grin.
“What’s for dinner?”
“Oh! I’ve got something even better planned,”
The photos started off innocent enough—pictures from his trips.
“Sarah,” he stuttered; his face turned white. “I can explain—”
“Sit down,” I cut him off. “We’re not finished yet.”
The last slide wasn’t just pictures but also detailed info about his finances and cheating. And waiting by the door? My divorce lawyer.
“This,” I said calmly; “is where it ends Ethan.”
The lawyer explained what would happen: The house—a gift from my parents—was mine now. The car was also in my name so it stayed with me too! Child support would take most of his paycheck away!
“You can’t do this Sarah!” he yelled.
“Actually,” I replied with a cold smile; “I already have.”
Rediscovering my passion for embroidery brought me joy in simple things & even led me on some dates! Most importantly though? My kids & i rebuilt our home filled with love respect & peace.
Ethan thought he could break me but really? All he did was ruin his own life! And honestly—I don’t feel sorry for him at all
