Ellen DeGeneres has moved to the UK after the recent election results that will make Donald Trump only the second president in US history to have two non-consecutive terms.
Many celebrities have been rumored to leave the US following Trump’s win, but it seems comedian DeGeneres is one of the few willing to actually take action, so to speak.
Reports say that the once-famous talk show host and her wife Portia de Rossi – known for Arrested Development – have left their home in Montecito, California (if that place sounds familiar, it’s where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle now live) for England.
Where does Ellen live?
It’s said that they chose to settle in the Cotswolds, a region in South West England where David and Victoria Beckham, actor Hugh Grant, and model Kate Moss also reside.
DeGeneres has faced a hard few years due to claims of bullying and a bad atmosphere on her popular Ellen DeGeneres Show. The 66-year-old made a statement about this after the accusations came out taking blame for the negative environment. However by then significant harm had been done to her otherwise clean image.
As of 2024, Ellen announced she would leave show business behind after one last standup special called For Your Approval. Since she is now retired from entertainment – at least on paper – maybe it’s not shocking that she and her partner are moving… yet their reason is sure to spark controversy.
As mentioned before, Ellen’s choice to leave America seems tied to Donald Trump’s election win. TMZ reported that DeGeneres and de Rossi had already bought their Cotswolds house before the election but a source said they wanted “to get out” of America after Trump won.
Additionally an anonymous source told The Wrap that they will “never” come back.
