Elton John reveals words he wants on gravestone after admitting he ‘doesn’t know how much time he has left’

Elton John has revealed the heartbreaking words he wants to have on his gravestone after admitting he ‘doesn’t know how much time he has left’.

The ‘Rocket Man’ hitmaker, 77, opened up about his health ahead of his new documentary, Elton John: Never Too Late, which looks back at his life and career.

John has had a number of health problems in recent years, including having both of his knees and one of his hips replaced.

The music icon was forced to delay his 2021 Farewell Yellow Brick Road after having a procedure due to an unfortunate fall.

Speaking about his health, John said: “I don’t have tonsils, adenoids or an appendix. I don’t have a prostate. I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee.

“In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip. But I’m still here. And I can’t thank you [enough], you’re the people that made me.”

Following the conclusion of his Farewell tour last year, the singer decided to take a step back from touring.

He said: “I don’t have to work after this. I will work and do records and putting radio shows together but traveling takes so much out of you.

“It is very tiring. I am used to it. I am a veteran at it but this is where you start to think about mortality.”

In a recent interview with Time magazine for its ‘Icon of the year’ segment, John revealed the heartbreaking words he would like to have on his gravestone after previously admitting he ‘doesn’t know how much time he has left’.

“On my gravestone, all I want it to say is, ‘He was a great dad’,” the 77-year-old told the outlet.

With husband David Furnish, 62, John shares children Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11.

In one scene during the documentary, John spoke about wanting to see his children getting married one day but confessed he doesn’t think he’ll be around.

“I want to see our children get married, but I don’t think I’m going to be around for that,” the ‘I’m Still Standing’ singer said.

As reported by Radio Times, Furnish got emotional at this moment as he imagined a life without his dear husband.

The film producer said: “That really upset me, because in my mind I sort of think Elton is going to live forever – we all think that – and Elton is so vibrant that it’s an easy thing to believe, but it forces you to confront that reality.”

Elton John: Never Too Late is available to stream on Disney+ now.
