It’s unknown how long the child was in the car boot before he was discovered by his mother.
A boy has died after becoming trapped inside the boot of a car near Shepparton in Victoria on Sunday.
The 10-year-old and his mother were visiting friends in Mooroopna when the tragedy unfolded on Gange St about 3.20pm as temperatures soared into the mid-30s.
A resident told 7NEWS the child grabbed the keys to his family’s car and climbed into the boot, locking himself inside.
It’s unknown how long the boy was inside the car but it was his mother who found him.
He was unresponsive and could not be saved.
According to the Herald Sun, the boy had suffered a cardiac arrest.
The incident was witnessed by other children who had been playing nearby.
The child has been remembered as a happy and bubbly boy who loved adventures and learning new things.
Victoria Police said the child’s death was not being treated as suspicious and the circumstances were still being investigated.
