There’s an unexpected hack that an air hostess swears by when it comes to her safety in hotel rooms, and it’s likely that you’ve never thought about doing it.

For people like Esther Sturrus, staying in a hotel room is the norm as she travels the globe as an air hostess.

With this in mind, she’s – of course – a seasoned traveller and knows all the hacks for hotel stays.

Of course a lot of hotels are totally secure, but you’d rather be safe than sorry…

In one video on her TikTok page that’s been viewed a staggering 39 million times, Esther shared some of the first things she does when she arrives in her new hotel room.

From undressing and showering, to checking the mattress for bed bugs, there’s a handful of things she checks off her list before hitting the hay.

In another video detailing more hacks for staying in a hotel, Esther shared a very important tip that could help keep you safe.

One of the tips she gave was to roll a bottle of water under your bed to ensure that no one is underneath it without having to crouch down and look for yourself.

If the bottle rolls through to the other side, it means that there aren’t any obstructions under the bed (such as a possible intruder).

Genius!

Other hacks in her video are equally as good — a personal favorite being that she used a coffee cup as a makeshift speaker for music playing off her cellphone.

Esther also used a paper cup as a toothbrush holder (which is something I’ll definitely be trying out on my next vacation).

Away from hacks for in your hotel room, experts have previously shared tips on some of the first things you should after disembarking from a plane.

One is to wash your clothes to get rid of any possible bacteria that stuck to your clothing while flying.

Dr. Annie DePasquale, who specializes in family medicine and founded Collaborating Docs, noted that there may be someone who was sick onboard the plane and that it could make you ill too.

“Transmission risk increases within about one row or one meter,” she said. “Coughs and sneezes can still send droplets onto your sleeves, lap or scarf, even with strong cabin filtration in place.”

She went on to say that by washing your clothes as soon as possible, it washes away any unwanted particles on your clothing.
