JD Vance has commented on what would happen if Donald Trump were to die in office.
Worldwide conflicts are intensifying, and global tensions continue to rise. Following the United States and Israel’s coordinated strikes on Iran, many questions have surfaced about what comes next, and what would happen if an attack escalated further and President Trump’s life were threatened.
In February 2025, Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at putting maximum pressure on Tehran, according to CBS 42. The order granted the U.S. “all possible tools” to engage with Iran’s government. The President described the move as “very tough on Iran.”
He also made clear that any attack on him would be met with complete annihilation: “They haven’t done that, and that would be a terrible thing for them to do. Not because of me — if they did that, they would be obliterated. That would be the end. I’ve left instructions; if they do it, they get obliterated, there won’t be anything left. And, they shouldn’t be able to do it,” Trump said, according to VT.
“Can’t think of better on-the-job training”
A U.S. president dying in office is a scenario the White House meticulously plans for. In such an event, Vice President JD Vance would assume the presidency. As the nation’s second-in-command, it’s a situation he has likely considered.
Vance addressed the topic in an interview with USA Today, saying he is ready to take over if a “terrible tragedy” were to occur: “God forbid, there’s a terrible tragedy, I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days,” he said, according to LadBible.
Donald Trump has survived previous assassination attempts. The most serious occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania. In a recent interview with ABC News, he addressed the prospect of a retaliatory attempt on his life: “I got him before he got me,” Trump told Jonathan Karl in a phone call late Sunday, according to New York Post. “They tried twice,” he said, referring to previous attempts on his life. “Well, I got him first.”
