This ‘angelic’ child star stayed out of the spotlight—he now looks ‘unrecognizable’ and grew a beard to hide from the public

Haley Joel Osment was a prominent child actor in the 1990s, known for roles in “Forrest Gump” and “The Sixth Sense,” working alongside stars like Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis. As he grew older, his career waned, though he continued to work in voice acting and cameos.

Osment’s acting journey began when he was discovered at age four in Ikea and cast in a Pizza Hut ad, leading to his role in “Forrest Gump.” His talent shone even at a young age, endearing him to audiences and critics.

By 1999, Osment starred in “The Sixth Sense,” gaining global fame and earning an Academy Award nomination. His emotional depth and vulnerability impressed director M. Night Shyamalan. Despite his success, Osment maintained a low profile, focusing on school and continuing to work in the industry.

In 2006, Osment faced a publicized drunk driving incident, leading to his arrest and injuries. This marked a tumultuous period, but he soon moved to New York to study experimental theatre at NYU. His Broadway debut in 2008 and subsequent roles allowed him to explore complex themes and character-driven performances.

By 2014, Osment appeared in the series “Silicon Valley,” showcasing his dramatic and comedic skills. He also underwent a physical transformation, which drew public attention. Osment embraced the changes, finding joy in diverse roles.

Returning to Los Angeles in 2020, Osment’s career thrived. He received praise for his versatility and dedication to acting. Fans appreciated his enduring talent and warm presence, likening him to esteemed actors like Philip Seymour Hoffman. Osment continues to diversify his projects, appearing in shows like “Teachers,” “The Devil Has a Name,” and “The Kominsky Method.”
