Actor And Singer Who Starred In ‘Starsky And Hutch’ Dies At 80

Actor David Soul is probably best known for his character on the hit 1970s TV series “Starsky and Hutch.” He played Detective Ken ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson on the series from 1975 to 1979 and later reprised the role in 2004 in the movie “Starky & Hutch.”

While Soul may be best known as Hutch, he acted in many other movies and TV shows. Just a few of his credits listed on IMDB include “Magnum Force,” “Jerry Springer: The Opera,” “Murder, She Wrote,” “Unsub,” “Secret of the Sahara,” “The Yellow Rose,” and “Here Comes the Bride.”

Yahoo! reports that Soul’s wife, Helen Snell, released a statement on January 5, 2024 confirming the death of her husband. She wrote in the statement, “David Soul – beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother – died yesterday (4 January) after a valiant battle for life in the loving company of family.”

Snell went on to praise her late husband for his many talents. She explained, “He shared many extraordinary gifts in the world as actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist and dear friend. His smile, laughter and passion for life will be remembered by the many whose lives he has touched.”

Soul’s acting career began when he was 24 years old. He joined a musical revue in North Dakota, and a talent scout noticed him. He signed a studio contract and began his career in Hollywood. You can relive some of his most memorable moments in “Starsky and Hutch” in the video below.

During his life, Soul was married five different times. The first four marriages ended in divorce. His first marriage was to Mim Solberg from 1963 to 1966, and they had one child together. His second marriage was to Karen Carlson from 1968 to 1975, and they also had one child together. His third marriage was to Patricia Anne Carnel from 1980 to 1986, and they had two children together. His forth marriage was to Julia Nickson from 1997 to 1993, and they had one child together.

Soul’s fifth and final marriage was to Snell. They got married in 2010 and remained married until he died. They did not have any children together. Soul was 80 years old at the time of his death, and Snell did not include a cause of death in her statement; however, according to The Washington Post, in recent years, he fought both lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He is survived by Snell and his children.
