Jim Carrey’s Sister Rita Passes Away at 68, Just a Year After Her Wedding

Rita Carrey, the sibling of famous⁤ actor ​and comedian Jim ​Carrey,‍ has died ‌at ‍68 just‍ over a year ⁣after her marriage.

Rita’s husband Alex shared the sad news ⁣on her Facebook page, saying that she‌ passed away on November 14, “surrounded by family and friends.”

“It is⁣ with⁣ a heavy heart and my deepest sadness that‌ Rita ‍passed away peacefully and​ quietly ‌on November 14, 2024,” ⁤he wrote. He also mentioned that⁤ they ⁤had been together for ​16⁢ years before getting married ⁢in an outdoor‌ ceremony⁢ last July.

“We traveled around the⁤ world ⁢and ⁢met many people we consider friends. Rita was​ my best ‍friend, my ​love, and my wonderful wife,” Alex ⁢added. “She ​always had a ‍caring spirit and wanted to help everyone even total ⁢strangers. As everyone knows Christmas ⁢was Rita’s favorite time ​of year actually it was ‍every day for her as she⁢ started ​a‌ fundraiser to support a local charity.”

Rita was one of The Mask star‍ Jim‍ Carrey’s three older siblings. He has a brother ​named John⁤ along with​ another‌ sister named ⁢Patricia. All four grew up in Canada.

In a 2015 chat with⁢ SiriusXM‍ 167, ‍Rita talked ​about being the⁣ sister of one‍ of⁤ the⁣ most ‌famous actors in the world.

“It’s ‍not hard,” she said. “People ask ‌me every day…⁢ I say now my name – ’cause they always go ‘Jim Carrey’s sister’ ⁣–⁣ so I call myself ⁢JCS ‌for ​Jesus Christ Superstar because​ I never get: ‍‘Oh, ⁢you’re Rita?’”

“But I’ve been asked ⁤for⁣ twenty-five years about Jim⁤ every single day of my ⁢life. Every⁤ day someone will say: ‘you’re ‌Jim⁢ Carrey’s sister’, or ‘you look like someone I know’, things ​like that. So ⁣it doesn’t ‍bother me.”

As of now, Jim has not yet made any statement regarding his sister’s ​death.
