Michael and his coworkers sometimes chat about their Thanksgiving plans the day before the holiday. Some of them would head back to their hometowns. Others were going to spend the holidays by the lake, while some planned to celebrate in fancy hotels with their partners.
On the other hand, Michael was not really into celebrating holidays because he didn’t have a family or a girlfriend to share it with.
That Thanksgiving, he was meant to celebrate with another single friend. But at the last minute, his friend said he had met someone special and they decided to spend it together.
The next Thanksgiving day, Michael looked at all the food he had bought for dinner and thought it was way too much for just him. So, he made a plan to cook a festive meal and invite people from a nearby homeless shelter that he always passed on his way home from work.
Michael kept busy all afternoon cooking some of his favorite Thanksgiving dishes. “I should’ve done this ages ago,” he thought as he packed up all the food into foil containers for the shelter.
After cooking, he walked over to the shelter where everyone gathered around for a warm meal.
“Wow!” one boy from there shouted. “I’ve never tasted this kind of food before! It’s so yummy!”
“Don’t worry; I’ll keep bringing you meals during holidays,” Michael promised them. “Go ahead and eat,” he told those who were there.
Michael decided to put some turkey on a plate along with other foods and walked over to cheer up one boy. “Here’s your meal, young man,” he said as he handed him the plate.
The boy looked up at him then started crying. He hesitantly took the plate and said thank you. “My mom used to make this food for me but now she’s too busy,” he shared.
“Where is your mom?” Michael asked him gently.
“She works all day trying hard so we can get a nice home. She picks me up late at night then brings me back here in morning,” replied quietly by boy who seemed sadder than ever before.Michael felt connected with that child right away.
He waited until that boy’s mom came back then offered her an awesome job that let her work less hours.
“Would you really do that?” she asked when offered position as Michael’s assistant.
“Yes! I need someone hardworking like you,” Michael explained.”Your son Damon told me how hard you work every day.”
Lindy couldn’t help but cry tears of joy thanking him many times over before starting her new job after Thanksgiving holiday ended!
A year later, Michael sat at home enjoying dinner with Damon & Lindy together! He no longer spent holidays alone nor ate meals by himself again since Lindy became his wife!
