Michael J. Fox is one of those unique stars whose charm, humor, and kindness have made him loved by so many.
The actor, who gave us unforgettable roles like Marty McFly in Back to the Future, has always had a way of making us grin — even during tough times.
But recently, he shared a sad confession that’s left us all feeling a bit heavy-hearted.
In an honest moment at The Michael J. Fox Foundation’s yearly fundraiser, the 63-year-old actor opened up about the emotional impact Parkinson’s disease has had on him. He revealed that keeping his signature humor alive, especially his “darker” sense of it, has become “hard for him.”
The lighthearted attitude that helped him cope with his diagnosis since he first shared it in 1991 now seems harder to maintain.
Self-deprecating jokes and playful remarks
Michael has always used humor to face the challenges of living with Parkinson’s; it’s been nothing short of inspiring. From his Back to the Future days until now, Michael’s talent for self-deprecating jokes and playful comments has kept fans smiling — and also brought much-needed attention to finding a cure.
But when talking to People Magazine at the recent gala, Michael admitted, “I gotta keep it intact,” recognizing how much tougher it’s become to stay positive.
His self-deprecating humor not only helps him cope but also makes Parkinson’s something people can discuss without awkwardness. Through books like Lucky Man, along with many interviews, Michael has made talking about life-changing diagnoses more approachable.
His ability to share both highs and lows of his journey with some humor helps countless others feel less alone in their struggles.
“Let’s embrace that..”
Even though he’s been open about challenges — how Parkinson’s affects his body and life — Michael is still determined to stay upbeat.
He mentioned that dark humor can be a strong way to break down taboos around this disease. He told People: “Let’s embrace that and make a difference.” And that’s exactly what he’s doing — using his voice, story, and yes,his humor,to inspire others facing their own battles.
The annual A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Cure Parkinson’s gala raised an amazing $116 million for research!
But true to Michael style,it wasn’t just serious speeches all night long.During the event he surprised everyone by rocking out on stage showing off guitar skills—something he’s always loved since filming Back To The Future.
In a 2020 interview with Empire, he shared fun behind-the-scenes moments from this iconic movie revealing he learned guitar specifically for one scene where Marty McFly shreds on stage.
“When I do this scene,I play guitar so you can finger sync me.Feel free cut my hands any time,”he told director Rob Zemeckis.
Of course, the pressure was high.”Having said that,it put pressure on me get it f–king right.I had this guy named Paul Hanson as my teacher.”
Fox’s performance at gala wasn’t first time showcasing beloved instrument.Earlier this year,Micheal made surprise appearance with Coldplay at Glastonbury Festival in U.K., once again demonstrating skills before huge crowd.
No matter facing such challenging cruel disease,Micheal J.Fox remains beacon strength & laughter. It shows despite tough times ,he stays committed living life fullest helping others do same.
If there is one thing we know for sure ,it is Micheal J.Fox more than just fighter—he symbolizes hope.Even toughest days continue teach value laughter, resilience & never letting go hope.
