Taking on extra partners while in a serious relationship has been seen as wrong by many. Even though it’s not super common today, there’s a growing interest in being open.
Our main character has faced a different side of open marriage, and now she wishes she hadn’t made that choice. She wrote us a letter to share her experience and asked us to publish it for opinions and advice from our readers. Here’s her tangled story with an unexpected twist.
Eva was happy with her traditional marriage.
Hi. I’ve found myself in a really strange situation in my seemingly strong and happy marriage. My husband Frank and I have been married for over 10 years, believing we had the harmony, trust, and commitment that any joyful family should have.
I never thought about having any side relationships that could hurt my marriage or be seen as cheating. Frank has always focused on family; he never gave me even the slightest reason to doubt his feelings or think he wanted another woman around.
Frank suddenly became interested in an open relationship.
After our second child was born, I started gaining weight due to some hormonal issues. Frank noticed I felt insecure about my changing looks and tried hard to reassure me that I looked beautiful with my curves.
I finally accepted my extra pounds when one evening Frank dropped a bombshell—he hinted at wanting more variety in his life. He said he loved me deeply but felt the need for an ‘additional partner’ who looked different from me.
This suggested that my dear husband wanted to explore some side relationship, likely with someone slimmer than me; this is why he thought of opening up our marriage.
At first, this shocked me because I’d never considered anything like this before—I didn’t want other partners besides Frank! Plus, his comment about wanting someone skinny felt like mockery; it seemed toxic but I decided not to react harshly.
Frank and Eva entered into an open marriage which caused major drama.
One day Frank decided not to beat around the bush anymore—he said we needed to try an open marriage! Doubts filled my mind about this idea but after talking honestly together, I reluctantly agreed.
Frank quickly began dating other women while I wasn’t looking for anyone myself. Instead of getting upset over it all, I tried staying busy with hobbies instead!
Then one day came when Frank shocked me completely by bringing one of his new partners home! He introduced her as Alyson and announced she would live with us for three or four months because she had landlord problems!
To say I was stunned is putting it lightly! At that moment,I knew I’d divorce him since he’d gone too far trying to be free from commitments—but instead of causing drama right away,I planned revenge instead!
Eva taught her husband a lesson he’ll probably remember forever.
Once Alyson settled into our home, she acted like she owned the place while i did all housework—she just relaxed enjoying time with frank!
Eventually,I stopped doing everything around the house.I only washed dishes for myself & our kid, cooked just for us two,and cleaned up after ourselves.Frank noticed right away how things changed;he didn’t get lunches packed anymore either!
I completely ignored all domestic duties acting like i was merely visiting their home. One day frank insisted we talk so i waited patiently knowing what i wanted say.I told him we must include Alyson since she’s part of “our family” now.He seemed surprised but agreed anyway…
So there we sat together—the three of us—and frank awkwardly mentioned feeling confused & frustrated by how i’d been acting lately. He claimed having an open marriage was mutual decision & thought i liked it too…
I listened carefully until it was MY turn.I calmly explained how disappointed *i* also felt regarding this arrangement saying “My dear husband,i regret agreeing solely outta concern FOR YOU.”
Now you’ve ignored MY needs entirely so guess what? I’m no longer your wife because you chose another woman who lives here now taking care OF YOU…
Alyson looked shocked along WITH frank—they weren’t expecting THIS conversation.Alyson stood up dramatically leaving room while frank apologized profusely…but honestly? It didn’t matter anymore!
I took MY things packed them up moved out AND am planning divorce.Do you think I’m making right choice OR should give him another chance?
