People think ‘we’re in hell’ after seeing Donald Trump’s offensive impression that wife Melania ‘hates’

Many viewers were left stunned—and openly asking if “we’re in hell”—after watching Donald Trump deliver a controversial on-stage impression that he openly admitted his wife despises.

The moment made it clear that Melania Trump, 55, is no fan of her husband’s performance antics—particularly his dancing and what critics describe as an “unpresidential” imitation of a transgender athlete.

On Tuesday, January 6, the 79-year-old former president spoke to fellow Republicans at the Kennedy Center, where he once again acted out a routine portraying a trans athlete lifting weights—something he has repeated in multiple formal speeches. Before launching into the act, Trump told the crowd that Melania “hates” the bit, calling it embarrassing and unprofessional.

During the speech, Trump flailed his arms in an exaggerated manner, then addressed his supporters by saying his wife—whom he described as “very classy”—had told him the routine was “so unpresidential.” He joked that he responded by reminding her that he did, in fact, become president anyway, adding that she also dislikes his dancing.

He went on to say Melania asked him to imagine Franklin D.

Roosevelt dancing on stage. Trump replied with a rambling reflection on Roosevelt’s elegance, noting that while FDR was a Democrat, he carried himself with style—especially during moments of national crisis—but would never behave the way Trump was acting.

Continuing the story, Trump said Melania pleaded with him to stop, telling him the weight-lifting imitation was “terrible.” He insisted, however, that audiences love his dancing, claiming crowds beg him to perform—despite Melania allegedly saying people were just being polite.

The clip quickly spread online, where backlash was swift and brutal. One Instagram user clarified that the footage was real, not AI, and taken from Trump’s appearance in front of House Republicans. Another added that the context made it even worse, noting the routine mocked trans athletes in women’s sports.

Others reacted with disbelief and despair.

One commenter joked darkly that everyone must have died during COVID and was now trapped in a nightmare. Another said they couldn’t comprehend how anyone could enjoy the spectacle. Several summed up the moment bluntly, saying the “bar is in hell” and that “we are in hell,” while international viewers admitted to feeling second-hand embarrassment despite not being American.

One final comment captured the prevailing mood online: “This is the bad place.”
