An airline has asked passengers to ‘stop traveling in jeans’ in a move which has divided opinion.

Let’s be honest, traveling by plane is generally not the nicest experience in the world, unless you’re rich enough to afford business class maybe.

Whether it’s the sub-optimal snacks that are eye-wateringly expensive, the uncomfortable seats, the stale recycled air, and the existential dread that you’re 30,000ft above the ground in a metal tube that might as well be running on magic.

Yes, we know it’s got something to do with thrust and lift on the wings, but that’s small comfort when the only thing between you and the ground is a mass of intricate metal workings, gasoline, and maybe some clouds.

For all that, air travel allows us to visit far-flung places much more easily than spending months on the road avoiding highwaymen – the only robbery seems to be buying a bottle of water and a sandwich after going through security.

Now, however, budget airline Ryanair, which operates cheap flights across Europe, has issued a strange instruction to passengers.

The company is known for its bombastic social media presence which leans into the public perception of it as a cheap and but not especially cheerful option, frequently taking on a ‘treat ’em mean’ persona on its accounts.

In one video posted to its TikTok channel, Ryanair made a rather bizarre request.

It wrote: “It’s 2026, let’s stop travelling in jeans.”

A caption on the video read: “Please,” accompanied by the emoji of hands together, as if pleading.

People were confused by the message, with one asking: “What is wrong with jeans please explain.”

The airline’s social media page replied simply: “What’s right with them?”

Many piled into the comments to share their thoughts on the peculiar video.

One wrote: “Ok I’ll fly in my 18th century historically accurate outfit.”

A second referenced Ryanair’s reputation for adding in extra charges on top of the initial ticket, writing: “Are you gonna charge for wearing jeans now?”

Someone else joked: “Whenever I take them off the flight attendants get mad at me.”

But some also appeared to agree with Ryanair’s sentiment that jeans are not the best attire when you’re traveling.

One user commented: “Prolly the least comfortable thing to wear while flying.”

Another added: “So real, I’ll never get it.”

People seem to have stronger opinions than you might expect on wearing jeans while flying.
