When you visit the beach and spot an area with no waves, don’t get too close.
This is a rip current, which can show up unexpectedly along the shoreline. You’ll notice this spot has a darker shade because the water there is deeper than usual; it looks calmer and the waves are smaller.
If you step into this area, the water can pull you out into the ocean so quickly that even an Olympic swimmer might struggle to return. This is responsible for about 80% of drownings at sea.
If you find yourself caught in this current, remember to stay cool and swim sideways to break free; don’t try swimming straight back to land.
Please share this with your family and friends so they can be safe.
