The Ancient Japanese Manual Technique for Relieving Pain: Just Press These Points on Your Hand

What Is Jin Shin Jyutsu?

Jin Shin Jyutsu is a Japanese art of harmonizing the body’s energy through the touch of the hands. It dates back centuries and is based on the wisdom that each finger is connected to specific organs, emotions, and mental states.

The goal is to release energy blockages, reduce tension, and help the body and mind regain harmony.

Each Finger and Its Related Emotion and Ailment

According to this technique, each finger represents a part of our emotional and physical experience. Here’s how it works:

1. Thumb

Associated emotions: anxiety, worry
Physical issues: stomach aches, headaches, digestive problems
How to treat it: wrap your other hand around your thumb and hold it gently for 1–2 minutes.

2. Index Finger

Associated emotions: fear, insecurity
Physical issues: kidney problems, muscle tension, lower back pain
How to treat it: apply gentle pressure while breathing slowly and deeply.

3. Middle Finger

Associated emotions: anger, frustration
Physical issues: liver issues, migraines, fatigue
How to treat it: hold the middle finger firmly yet gently and relax during the pressure.

4. Ring Finger

Associated emotions: sadness, melancholy, difficulty “letting go”
Physical issues: respiratory problems, lung fatigue
How to treat it: gently hold the ring finger for a few minutes.

5. Little Finger

Associated emotions: low self-esteem, social insecurity
Physical issues: heart issues, throat discomfort, neck tension
How to treat it: press the little finger while breathing deeply.

How to Practice This Technique

1. Find a calm moment
Sit comfortably, relax your shoulders, and begin breathing slowly.

2. Choose the finger based on your need
You can focus on a specific emotion or physical discomfort.

3. Apply gentle but steady pressure
Wrap the chosen finger with the opposite hand and hold it for 1–3 minutes. You may also treat all the fingers, one at a time, for a complete energy rebalance.

4. Repeat daily
Just a few minutes a day may produce surprising results over time.

Benefits of the Technique

  • Reduces stress and calms the mind
  • Helps manage intense or repressed emotions
  • Promotes sleep and relaxation
  • May relieve physical symptoms linked to emotional tension
  • Has no known side effects and can be practiced anywhere
