Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the Royal Family feeling frustrated and mad when they decided to step back from their roles as active members of the monarchy. Things didn’t improve when they made a bunch of claims against King Charles and others, starting a feud that seems like it will never end.
Harry accused Charles of being a bad father, while he called Queen Camilla the “evil” stepmother. Meghan also made shocking claims about racism in the Royal Family. The royals haven’t replied to any of these accusations, and today, the gap between the Sussexes and the monarchy is deeper than ever. No one knows if or when this will be resolved, but Queen Camilla is rumored to want to protect her family at all costs.
Camilla has been very protective of her husband regarding Harry. Once upon a time, she got along well with the Sussexes; it’s said that she tried helping Meghan adjust to royal life. But then one event changed everything – specifically, one photo changed everything – leading to Meghan’s downfall in royal duties.
When Prince Harry introduced Meghan Markle into his family, his stepmother Queen Camilla had already been part of it for years. She married King Charles in 2005 and faced lots of scrutiny just like Meghan did.

Harry started dating Meghan in 2016 but within months, media attention was everywhere on her as an actress from Suits. Eventually, things got so bad that Harry felt he needed to take action.
In a statement from his communications secretary, Harry publicly stated that Meghan was facing serious harassment. He explained how he usually ignored “made-up stories” but said “the past week crossed a line.”
“Some issues were very public – like negative headlines in newspapers; racial comments; plus outright sexism and racism online,” read part of Harry’s statement.
“Other problems were hidden – nightly legal battles against false stories; her mom struggling past photographers just to get home; reporters trying illegally entering her house which led to police calls; big bribes offered by tabloids for info about her ex-boyfriend; constant pressure on nearly every friend or loved one.”
At that time BBC royal reporter Peter Hunt mentioned there were “people at Buckingham Palace who understood his pain.” One person who really got what Meghan was going through was Camilla who decided she needed to help.
How Queen Camilla tried helping Megan settle into royal life
Camilla did everything she could do help Megan fit into royal life better. Before Meg’s wedding with Harry, Camila invited her for lunch & shared how tough press coverage had been after Princess Diana died along with how she managed stress.
According to Daily Mail reports,Camila told Megan focus on positive aspects & “ride out any storms if negative press came.”
Charles supposedly gave similar advice to Harry too.
But Megan seemed not agree much with this view! In an ITV documentary,she claimed people didn’t care about how she felt saying: “Not many have asked if I’m OK.”
“A friend told Daily Mail: ‘Meg appreciated Camila’s support during private lunches especially around marriage time.’ She listened & understood joining Royal Family can be hard coming from normal life.”
The friend added: “Like Meg,Camila faced tons negativity due relationship with Charles while still married.”

“She was very aware of Meghan’s feelings and gave her support, telling her to endure the tough times and that it would eventually pass – but Meghan didn’t listen.”
“She works really hard to make people feel welcome”
A palace worker told the Mail that Camilla knew what it was like for someone coming from a “normal life” before suddenly being part of the world’s most famous royal family.
“Because of this, she works really hard to make people feel welcome and help them adjust, which she has done for many years,” said the palace source.
“She actively offers to mentor and guide others. This applies not just to the Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex but many others too.”
It became clear that Harry and Meghan’s future wasn’t with the Royal Family after their 2018 wedding. Some experts say they considered leaving just days after tying the knot; however, in January 2020, they announced they wouldn’t continue as senior working members.
Meghan Markle later made several shocking claims against the royals during her famous Oprah Winfrey interview in 2021, explaining why she and Harry felt they couldn’t remain. Although there hasn’t been any response from royals regarding these claims by Sussexes, it seems there were other reasons their role within monarchy became impossible.
One downside during their time as royals was that Meghan didn’t get along with Kate Middleton; also reports say her relationship with Camilla fell apart too.
Meghan Markle ‘started a conflict’ with Queen Camilla over photos
But who is responsible? One story talks about a photo that supposedly made Camilla very angry marking a turning point.
In 2020, just weeks before Harry & Meghan left royal life behind them, Camilla had plans to attend an event celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Women of the World festival where she would give a speech. It was reported that Meghan promised not to interfere.
The Mirror stated that Camilla’s team had organized this event for over a year. But when they arrived there, Meghan took all attention away from Camila which upset her greatly.
“Camila’s work means so much to her; highlighting domestic violence at Women of World anniversary was something planned carefully,” said an insider close to royalty.
“It was known Harry & Meghan would be doing some events this week privately but everyone agreed on making sure Camila’s speech came first. Sadly some individuals had different ideas.”
Meghan faced accusations of taking Camilla’s spotlight by sharing photos of herself at the event on the same day. According to the Daily Mail, Buckingham Palace had asked royal reporters to focus on Camilla and not Meghan but that didn’t happen.

The Duchess reportedly pushed for the photos to be shared and was blamed since they were published ‘too quickly.’
Speaking with The Sun last year, royal expert Duncan Larcome mentioned that Camilla’s annoyance about the pictures is reasonable.
“The ‘men in grey suits’ try hard to prevent scheduling conflicts and one family member outshining another on the same day. Camilla would have a right to be upset for sure. But as Harry and Meghan keep doing their own thing without caring about what else is happening in the Royal Family, these types of ‘clashes’ will keep happening,” he said.
Camilla has become a key figure for the Royal Family especially because she has taken on a lot of duties during King Charles’ cancer treatment and recovery. Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan are still trying to fix their public image so it could be said that Camilla has gotten her payback.
Harry and Meghan made a huge deal with Spotify years ago but it ended badly when Meghan’s Archetypes podcast was canceled along with their entire Spotify contract.
In Queen Camilla’s case podcasts seem like her thing.
Queen Camila’s ‘revenge’ on Meghan Markle
In twenty twenty-one, she started an initiative called The Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room, which is basically a book club sharing reading suggestions & more. It began during COVID & became super popular leading to a podcast.
“Camilla’s podcast has been very successful. She has shown many times she can get big names from arts whenever she wants,” Ingrid Seward editor-in-chief at Majesty Magazine told The Sun.
“Since Meghan seems uninterested in Queen Camila I doubt she would say anything nice about her or her podcast.”
Denise Palmer Davies brand expert & director at Borne Media stated that camillas success is “the perfect revenge” against Meghan.
“After all those hurtful things Harry said about her finally got back at them,” she told The Sun. “I bet especially Meghan will be furious over this whole situation & maybe even embarrassed hers failed so quickly.”
