The magic of childbirth is really amazing, especially when seen through the eyes of kids who are still learning about the world.
The tale I’m going to tell you, which has been shared online for many years, takes us back to a classroom where a teacher got to see an unforgettable “show-and-tell” by one of her students.
This teacher was in for a big surprise when she asked a little girl in her class to talk about childbirth. The explanation that followed was so special and sweet that it’s best heard directly.
I won’t spoil anything, but I can promise you that reading this charming story will make you smile and warm your heart.
So let’s jump into the story and see the innocence and wisdom from a child’s view on the miracle of childbirth…. Here we go:
Little girl’s show-and-tell story about her brother’s birth wows the classroom 👇🏻
Grammar School Teacher shares: “I’ve been teaching for around fifteen years. I have two kids myself, but the best birth story I know is one I witnessed in my second-grade classroom not long ago.
“Normally, show-and-tell is pretty simple. Kids bring pet turtles, model planes, pictures of fish they caught—stuff like that. And I never set any limits on them. If they want to bring it to school and talk about it, they can.
“Well one day this little girl named Erica—a very smart and outgoing kid—takes her turn and waddles up front with a pillow stuffed under her sweater. She holds up a picture of a baby. ‘This is Luke, my baby brother! And I’m gonna tell you about his birthday! First Mommy & Daddy made him as proof of their love; then Daddy put a seed in Mommy’s tummy & Luke grew there! He ate for 9 months through an umbrella cord.’ She stands there with hands on the pillow while I’m trying not to laugh wishing I’d recorded it all. The other kids are watching amazed.
“‘Then two Saturdays ago,’ Erica says ‘my mom starts going “Oh oh oh!”’ She puts one hand behind her back groaning like crazy. ‘She walked around our house for like an hour saying “Oh oh oh!”’ Now this kid does this funny duck-walk holding her back groaning away. ‘My dad called the middle wife who delivers babies but doesn’t have any sign on her car like Domino’s does.’ They got my mom lying down in bed like this.’ Erica lies down against the wall showing how it was done. ‘And then pop! My mom had this bag of water she kept inside just in case he got thirsty; then it blew up spilling everywhere like psshhheew!’
“The kid has legs spread out miming water flowing away—it was too much!
“‘Then middle wife starts saying push push breathe breathe,’ she continues excitedly ‘They start counting but never even get past ten before suddenly out comes my brother covered in yucky stuff they said came from play-center so there must be lots inside!’
“Afterward Erica stood up took an exaggerated bow & returned to sit down—I’m sure I clapped loudest ever since if it’s show-and-tell day now? I’ve started bringing my camcorder just incase another Erica shows up.”
