Vegan Bakery Exposed For Reselling Dunkin’ Donuts

A small vegan bakery in Huntington, New York, has landed in hot water after customers discovered they were allegedly reselling Dunkin’ Donuts as their own vegan creations. The revelation has sparked outrage, confusion, and plenty of online debates.

Vegan bakeries can be a fun adventure, especially for those willing to try alternatives to traditional baking. However, they also remind us of the importance of classic ingredients like butter and eggs in dessert-making.

While I fully support culinary creativity and have enjoyed some impressive vegan desserts, there’s no denying that many vegan bakeries face challenges when they move too far from the core of “the majority of dessert-baking history using butter and eggs as a core component.”.

That’s why patrons of Cindysnacks in Huntington, New York, were shocked by their donut offerings. These were no ordinary donuts—described as light, flavorful, vegan, and even gluten-free.

The perfection of these treats left many wondering how such results were even possible.

For some customers, the donuts seemed almost too good to be true.

Unfortunately, that suspicion turned out to be well-founded.

As revealed in a Reddit post on r/longisland, Cindysnacks had been sourcing its donuts from another company, The Savory Fig, which marketed itself as a fully vegan kitchen. However, things took a turn when a recent shipment included donuts adorned with distinctive “D”-shaped sprinkles.

Curious about this odd detail, Cindysnacks reached out to The Savory Fig for clarification.

In an Instagram post, the bakery shared, “I raised my concerns respectfully, hoping a simple explanation with confirming evidence would clear this up,”.

The post included screenshots of their conversation with The Savory Fig, which insisted the donuts were not from Dunkin’.

According to The Savory Fig, the “D” sprinkles were simply part of a “Happy Birthday” decoration set they happened to have on hand. However, this explanation left many questions unanswered.

First, why were all the sprinkles shaped like D’s? Second, the packaging for the sprinkles did not indicate that they were vegan.

Finally, the donuts themselves bore a striking resemblance to those sold by Dunkin’, raising doubts about the honesty of the claim.

For customers, the entire situation felt like a poorly constructed charade that begged for further scrutiny.

To confirm their suspicions, Cindysnacks conducted a gluten test on the donuts. As it turned out, the treats were not gluten-free, a shocking revelation given the bakery’s claims. This oversight could have posed serious health risks, especially for customers with Celiac disease. Thankfully, Cindysnacks caught the issue before selling the donuts, avoiding any potential harm or legal repercussions.

However, the same cannot be said for The Savory Fig. Following the exposure, their Instagram account was deleted, and their Facebook page became the target of relentless review-bombing.

Speculation suggests The Savory Fig may soon face a health inspection. It seems the fallout from this incident will continue for quite some time.

As for future advice? If you’re going to resell donuts, at least pick a source less recognizable than Dunkin’.
