There are few things more crucial in life than the safety and protection of ourselves and our family.
It’s clear that most of us want to steer clear of danger whenever we can, especially in our own homes. For as long as people have lived together, our houses, whether they are tiny or huge, old or brand new, have given us a feeling of safety.
That’s why it’s so frightening when we become targets for break-ins and similar crimes. The thought of a stranger entering our home and being able to snoop around or take what they want is really unsettling.
I know I’m not the only one who feels this way; therefore, I thought it would be smart to share an important alert about a method used by some criminals trying to get into homes by tricking unsuspecting residents. Want to learn more? Keep reading…
Home security is something many individuals take very seriously. Some people have dogs that serve as both alarms and protectors. Others install cameras outside their houses hoping to scare off potential thieves or catch them on tape if they try anything.
However, just like throughout history, criminals always try to stay ahead of the measures set up against them.
A woman from Texas named Kim Fleming Cernigliaro learned this lesson a few years back when she experienced an attempted break-in at her house.
After her scary experience – which happened in 2016 – Kim took to Facebook sharing what occurred along with an important warning that everyone should remember.
“Two weeks ago,” her post started, “during the day there was a hard knock at my front door; not your usual knock but almost pounding (I honestly thought someone might need help) but something felt off…and I DO NOT answer the door when I’m alone here. So don’t even try!”
“After several knocks they finally left. I peeked through my stained glass door and saw it was a man outside. About 30 minutes later I went out expecting maybe some flyer but instead found a rubber band around my doorknob keeping it open once I unlocked it! I called Ron who told me to grab my gun and keep it ready.”
Surprisingly according to reports Kim nearly became another victim of this trick used by thieves trying to enter people’s homes.
Kim’s post continued saying she had reached out to local law enforcement who told her this method was becoming common in their area.
She added: “As soon as you unlatch your door they don’t wait for you turn the knob; they can rush right in! Just be careful; I USEd to trust everyone but now I’m much more cautious!”
