I’m sure I’m not the only one who finds it annoying to go into one store and find a pair of pants that fits, only to go to another store, grab the same size, and realize you actually need a bigger size.
How can this happen? Aren’t sizes supposed to be the same everywhere? Nope. And just wait until you find out there’s a difference between women’s XXL and 2X.
A plus-size influencer shared this surprising fact with her followers on TikTok, leaving many shocked.
“WHAT. And this is from someone who is plus size.”
At first glance, there doesn’t seem to be much difference between these two sizes. Plus, logically speaking, doesn’t the “2” in 2X mean it’s double extra-large or XXL?
In one of her videos, Makayla Smith pointed out that while it may seem small, there is indeed a difference. For those struggling with which size fits them best, comfort is key.
A retail worker added their insight: “XXL is still seen as ‘straight sizing’ and just a larger version. 2X comes from a plus-size pattern.”
Others appreciated Smith for highlighting this confusion about sizes that many stores ignore.
“h&m thinks they are,” wrote one person.
“This might explain why nothing fits me when I shop at fashion nova,” another commented.
In women’s clothing lines, double extra large counts as an extended size while 1and 0X are considered plus sizes. Extended sizes are based on straight sizing–XXS through XL or sizes 0–18.
On the flip side, plus sizes use different patterns designed for various hip-to-waist ratios and fuller busts. The proportions also change as the size goes up.
As with most clothes shopping can vary by brand but generally speaking plus sizes range from 0X up to 4X or even from14W to30W! Some brands even offer extended options up to6X!
