It’s no surprise that planning a wedding is expensive. In fact, the 2021 national average cost of a wedding is $28,000, according to the Knot Real Weddings Study.
One of the biggest things brides and grooms budget for is food. After all, you want your guests to enjoy a nice meal on such an important day.
So what if someone came to your wedding—after you spent all that money, and spent careful time picking the perfect cuisine—and decided to pack up a bunch of leftovers in Tupperware?
One woman shared her story on Reddit about how a wedding guest did just that. She explained that she had a small wedding ceremony of about 25 people, which included her dad’s best friend. A few days before the wedding, the friend asked if he could bring his daughter and her husband, and the bride obliged.
However, the daughter then attended the wedding without her husband, but made sure to bring back a bunch of food—10 Tupperware containers! Seven of those containers she filled with food, and the other three were to pack up the delicious homemade cookies on the cookie table. She also decided it was fine to take a few bottles of beer as well as some of the centerpieces home with her.
To make matters worse, she gifted the couple $5. That’s right—a $5 bill! The bride also explains that this woman is far from poor, presumably because of all the freeloading she does.
People who read her story couldn’t believe how someone could do this, and agreed with how unacceptable it was.
“Any guest who shows up at a function where food is being served (other than a potluck) with any kind of container/bag should be instantly asked/told/forced to leave. No exceptions,” someone said.
“Flabbergasted!!!! I think I would have to find this woman and share some words. People like this must be stopped,” someone else commented.
Many people were confused at why no one said anything to this woman: “That’s horrible behavior. But how could none of the other close friends and family not have taken issue with that type of freeloading to come and tell you? I do t think anyone else there gets any awards for good behavior or watching your back either,” someone wrote.
Many others empathized with her, sharing similar stories of guests doing the same thing as their wedding.
