The 25th Amendment bombshell: Here’s how Trump could be forced from office

Donald Trump’s message to the Norwegian prime minister earlier this week was the last drop for many Democrats, who is calling for the 25th Amendment to be invoked. Here’s how it could remove Donald Trump from office.

Donald Trump’s aggressive rhetoric toward Greenland has brought instability to the world, especially between the NATO allies. While the president claims the US needs Greenland for national security, he has not ruled out taking it by military force.

Several doctors and experts have claimed that Donald is having health issues, for example, claiming that he is developing dementia. The letter the president sent to the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, last weekend has left several Democrats in the Senate and Congress concerned.

Trump argued that not receiving the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize from Norway lets him prioritize US interests, though Norway is not responsible for awarding it.

The letter read, “Dear Jonas: Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America. Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a ‘right of ownership’ anyway?”

Trump continued, “There are no written documents; it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also. I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you! President DJT”

How the 25th Amendment could remove Donald Trump from office

Jonas Gahr Støre later confirmed to Norwegian news outlet VG that he had received a message from Donald Trump on Sunday. Following the president’s strange response, Democrats called for invoking the 25th Amendment to legally remove him from office.

The 25th Amendment was proposed by federal lawmakers following the assassination of John F Kennedy in 1963 and ratified in 1967. It was instituted to help prepare for incapacitation and medical emergencies that could prevent the president from performing normal duties, and it has four sections.

Section 1 states that if a president dies, resigns, or is removed from office, the vice president becomes president. Section 2 states that if the VP seat is vacant, the president shall nominate a stand-in who takes office upon confirmation by a majority vote in both chambers of Congress.

Moreover, section 3 allows a US president to temporarily hand over power by sending the House speaker and the Senate’s president pro tempore a written letter stating he or she is unable to perform the duties of the Presidency.

The vice president then becomes acting president until the president sends another written declaration, saying he is able to resume the job. This section has been invoked when the president undergoes medical procedures.

Democrat says Trump is “extremely mentally ill”

Lastly, Section 4 allows the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet to declare in writing that the president is unable to discharge the powers and duties of the office, making the vice president the acting president. Furthermore, if the president contests that declaration, Congress must decide the issue.

The president can remain sidelined only if two-thirds of both the House and Senate vote that he is unable to serve. Congress has 21 days to reach a decision once the question is formally before it.

After the latest controversial claims, statements, and letter. Some Democrats are now calling to get Donald Trump out of office by using the 25th Amendment.

Several Democrats, including Representatives Yassamin Ansari and Sydney Kamlager-Dove, as well as Senator Ed Markey, have called for invoking the amendment. Moreover, Trump has even been criticized by Republicans, including Representative Don Bacon and Senator Mitch McConnell.

“The president of the United States is extremely mentally ill, and it’s putting all of our lives at risk. The 25th Amendment exists for a reason—we need to invoke it immediately,” Yassamin Ansari, an Arizonan Democrat, said in a post on X.

Expert explains details about 25th Amendment

So how can you invoke the 25th Amendment when it comes down to it? According to Baltimore law professor Mark Graber at the University of Maryland, there are “both political and legal problems with efforts to invoke” it.

“The legal problem is that the 25th Amendment was designed to deal with a medically incapacitated president, for example, a president who is unconscious or unable to physically perform the duties of the office,” he told Newsweek, “We might imagine a mentally ill president whose beliefs are so fantastic that he or she can no longer perform the job, but President Trump is not suffering from that form of psychosis.”

Graber added that Trump’s platform and characteristics are “political disqualifications for the office of the presidency,” but explained that “the American people disagreed in 2024.”

“A fair case can be made that President Trump’s actions are impeachable, but that is a different part of the Constitution and suffers from the same political problem,” the University of Maryland told Newsweek.
