If you try making croissants at home just once, especially over the weekend, you will want to make them again and again. It is not only because of their delicious taste, but also because of the wonderful aroma that fills the entire house while they bake. Children will love them too.
Ingredients for About 16 Pieces
- 280 g flour
- 25 g fresh brewer’s yeast
- 1 egg
- Milk, enough so that the egg and milk together measure 150 ml
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 60 g very soft butter
- 50 g sugar
- Nutella, jam, or any filling of your choice
For Brushing on Top
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tablespoons milk
Preparation
1. Prepare the Dough
In a stand mixer or a large bowl, combine all the ingredients except the butter. Start mixing with a spoon, then continue by hand or with the mixer until the dough begins to come together.
Next, add the soft butter little by little and keep mixing until it is fully incorporated into the dough and the mixture becomes smooth.
2. Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a lightly floured bowl. Cover it with plastic wrap and let it rest until it doubles in size. This usually takes about 1 hour.
3. Shape the Croissants
Once the dough has risen, divide it into two equal balls.
Using a rolling pin and a little flour, roll out each ball into a round shape. Cut each round into 8 triangles using a knife.
Place a small amount of Nutella, jam, or your favorite filling at the base of each triangle. Then roll each triangle from the wide end toward the tip to create the classic croissant shape.
Arrange the croissants on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover them with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise for another hour.
4. Brush and Bake
After the second rise, brush the tops of the croissants with the egg yolk mixed with 2 tablespoons of milk.
Bake them in a preheated oven at 180°C (356°F) for about 20 minutes, or until they become beautifully golden on top.
A Homemade Treat Worth Trying
These homemade croissants are soft, fragrant, and perfect for breakfast, dessert, or an afternoon snack. Once you make them at home, you may find yourself skipping the bakery more often and enjoying the comfort of fresh, warm pastries straight from your own oven.
