Homemade Turtle Candy with Pecans and Caramel

Homemade Turtle Candy with Pecans and Caramel

These homemade turtle candies are a classic, easy-to-make treat made with crunchy pecans, soft caramel, and rich melted chocolate. They come together quickly and are perfect when you want something sweet without turning on the oven.

About This Recipe

Turtle candies get their name from the way pecans are arranged to resemble little turtle legs, topped with gooey caramel and finished with a layer of chocolate. With just a few ingredients, you can create a delicious homemade candy in under 10 minutes.

They’re naturally gluten-free, require no baking, and are perfect for holidays, gifting, or everyday sweet cravings.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz soft caramels (store-bought or homemade)
  • 6 oz pecan halves (lightly toasted)
  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate (chips or chopped chocolate)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Tray

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Lightly spray with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.

Step 2: Arrange the Pecans

Place pecan halves in small clusters of four, arranging them so they point outward like turtle legs. You can also simply form small rustic clusters if preferred.

Step 3: Melt the Caramel

Add the caramels to a microwave-safe bowl. If they are very firm, add a teaspoon of water to help soften them.

Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring each time, until fully melted and smooth.

Let the caramel cool slightly so it is warm but not too hot.

Step 4: Add the Caramel

Spoon small amounts of melted caramel over each pecan cluster. Don’t worry about perfect shapes—these are meant to look rustic, and some pecans may still show through.

Step 5: Add the Chocolate

Melt the chocolate in the microwave or using a double boiler until smooth.

Spoon or drizzle melted chocolate over the caramel-covered pecans.

Step 6: Set and Serve

Allow the candies to cool at room temperature or place them in the refrigerator until set.

Once firm, enjoy your homemade turtle candies!

Tips

  • Toasting the pecans enhances flavor and crunch.
  • Add a pinch of sea salt on top for a sweet-salty twist.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

Enjoy these simple, rich, and irresistible Homemade Turtle Candies!
